Demand Up, Prices Down for VoIP Equipment: Report

An Infonetics Research report finds the VoIP equipment market fell 9 percent in the third quarter of 2010.

According to the report, the total service provider VoIP equipment market decreased 9 percent from Q2 to Q3, settling at $511 million. The market includes SBCs, media servers, voice application servers, trunk media gateways and softswitches.

Though revenue may be down, shipments in all segments of the market have increased, with Asia Pacific the only region expected to post year-over-year revenue growth in 2010 for service provider VoIP equipment.

Diane Myers, directing analyst for VoIP and IMS at Infonetics, said “The No. 1 story that will come out of 2010 for the IMS and carrier VOIP equipment markets is China, where conditions are driving volumes up and pushing prices down.”
